I recently decided to delete everything from my ereader that suggested "must do" activities for successful businesses. Had I tried many of them? Perhaps for a short while, since there is no secret code to business success and these weren't great general tips. But like you, @Jill, I've come to recognize that how we do business (connection, curiosity and consistently) is MUCH more important than what we do (ads, programs, waking up at 4am, etc.).
As with all other revelations in business, reading it back in your comment I'm always left to wonder: why does it take so long to learn these simple things??????
I think a lot of that delay is because so many of these things aren't the latest new things or particularly exciting or sexy...the new stuff (with or without merit) seizes attention and tempts all of us to give them a shot, even though we might not do so if we paused to connect with trusted peers, advisors or our own intuition.
You are right. It's really not sexy...but it's what works. It's like we know it and we don't trust it all at the same time. A big resounding UGH to it all!

Seriously! And a big ugh to the many books and LI posts that make it seem that the key to success is out there, if we keep looking. Grrrrr
I've been thinking a lot about the value of listening and fostering connection. Great points, Jill.
Thank you, Catherine! Listening: the lost art of the decade.
I especially love “connection” — particularly the one we created and nurtured!
Same, Amy. What a connection we made — and what a lifelong connection we will have!
Well said!! Makes me feel better for all the times I zigged when others zagged.
