Productivity isn’t linear. It goes in waves.

Business plans are full of expectations that if you do A, it’ll lead to B, and then C will happen. Success graphs show arrows pointing skyward. Progress should be straightforward and follow a straight line.

But these are the stuff of hopes and dreams, not reality.

The reality is that we want everything to go in a smooth, straight line. We want the website to look perfect. We want the social media campaign to attract 9458098340293 followers. We want the invoice to be paid tomorrow. We want to have control over how things happen, when they’ll happen, and exactly what will happen.

Is it foolish to want these things? Absolutely not.

Is it better to remember that nothing will happen the way you want it to…and that’s okay? Absolutely.

Expect waves. Your highs aren’t permanent. Your lows aren’t, either.

Once you get the hang of it, there’s a beauty in the whole process. You’ll find joy as long as you ride the waves.
